


Work Trade Shift Descriptions
​Seed Starting & Microgreens (Tuesdays; 3-4 hr. shift during 2-6pm window) – 1 person (POSITION FILLED)

We grow our own vegetable starts for transplanting. This task involves filling trays with potting soil, seeding and watering in those trays. We’ll train you on seeding techniques including hand seeding, using a hand-held seed sower tool, and using a drop seeder to seed Paperpot trays. You’ll also be responsible for thinning trays of starts as needed.

We seed microgreens weekly. This task involves filling flats with soil, seeding and watering in microgreens, and setting up the trays for light deprivation/proper germination. We’ll train you on seeding pea shoots, sunflower shoots and radish microgreens.

Other occasional tasks performed during this shift as time allows: weeding, bulk harvests (snap peas, tomatoes, zucchini), microgreen harvest, tomato pruning & trellising, potting up starts.

This shift requires attention to detail & ability to work independently. Work is mainly under cover out of the elements and done from a standing position. Ability to lift 30-50lb bags of potting soil is desirable, but we can work with you if this is a challenge.

Our main season for seed starting is April-August. Microgreens are grown April-December. The ideal person for this position will be able to commit to the May-Aug time frame with an option to extend into September if desired.
​Harvest Crew (Wednesdays; 3-4 hr. shift during the 7-11am window) – 1 person (POSITION FILLED)
Harvest Crew (Fridays; 3-4 hr. shift during the 7-11am window) – 2 people (POSITIONS FILLED)

Help harvest veggies for our Thursday wholesale deliveries and Saturday farmers market. We’ll train you on harvesting the following: bunching greens (kale, chard), lettuce heads, radicchio, herbs (cilantro, dill, parsley), radishes, salad turnips, carrots, beets, fennel, broccolini, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, nasturtiums, zucchini.

Other occasional tasks performed during this shift as time allows: weeding, bed prep, transplanting, wash/pack.

This shift is ideal for someone who likes fast-paced work, getting to be outdoors in all elements and observing seasonal change in the garden. Attention to detail, ability to perform (and enjoy) repetitive tasks, bending at the waist and/or squatting, and lifting 30-50lbs are necessary for this shift. You’ll sometimes work independently and sometimes as part of a team.

For Wednesdays, we're looking for someone to commit to mid-May through September with the possibility to extend into October. For Fridays, we're looking for people to commit to June through September with the possibility to extend into October to help with bulk harvests of storage vegetables.

​Wash-Pack (Wednesdays; 3-4 hr. shift during the 2-6pm window) – 1 person (POSITION FILLED)
Wash-Pack/Market Prep (Fridays; 3-4 hr. shift during the 1-5pm window) – 2-3 people ((POSITIONS FILLED)

Help wash & pack veggies for our Saturday farmers market and wholesale deliveries. We’ll train you on washing & packing the following: baby greens, microgreens, bunching greens (kale, chard), lettuce heads, radicchio, herbs (cilantro, dill, parsley), radishes, salad turnips, carrots, beets, fennel, broccolini, cauliflower, cabbage, celery, nasturtiums, zucchini, snap peas, tomatoes, peppers.

This shift is ideal for someone who likes fast-paced work in a team environment. Lots of time to jam out to some tunes and chat with us and/or your fellow work traders (just make sure to work while you talk!). Attention to detail and the ability to perform (and enjoy) repetitive tasks are necessary for this shift. Ability to lift 30-50 lbs. is a plus, but we can work with you if this is problematic. Most work is done under cover and from a standing position. Some washing tasks can be damp jobs and we recommend bringing rain gear. We also have rain gear and aprons available to borrow.

"Tunnel Tamer" Pruning & Trellising (flexible 3-4 hr. shift at time of your choosing) – 1 person (POSITION FILLED)

We’ll train you on the care of indeterminate cherry tomatoes & cucumbers. Weekly tasks include pruning off suckers & trellising vines.

This shift requires attention to detail, ability to work independently and good communication skills (to keep us informed of your shift day/time if it is going to change week-to-week). Work is done in the caterpillar tunnel.

Other occasional tasks performed during this shift as time allows: weeding, bulk harvests (tomatoes, radishes, snap peas, zucchini).

We’re looking for someone who can commit from early/mid-June until mid-September with the possibility to extend into October if you are interested in tunnel cleanup, replanting and other assorted end-of-season tasks.
​General Garden Maintenance (Thursdays; 3-4 hr. shift during the 2-6pm window) – 2-3 people (POSITIONS FILLED)

We’ll train you on a variety of tasks for the market garden including: bed prep, direct seeding, transplanting, row cover management, weeding, and bulk harvests (tomatoes, snap peas, zucchini, carrots, radishes).

This shift is ideal for someone who likes varied physical work, getting to be outdoors in all elements and observing seasonal change in the garden. Attention to detail, ability to perform repetitive tasks, bending at the waist and/or squatting, and lifting 30-50lbs are necessary for this shift. You’ll sometimes work independently and sometimes as part of a team.

We’re looking for people who can commit from mid-May to mid-October. Early and late season work will likely be shorter/more flexible shifts.

Market Assistant (Saturdays; 3-4 hr. shift during the 8:30am-12:30pm window) – 1 person

We’ll train you to help with all aspects of running our booth at the Red Lodge Farmers Market. This includes booth set-up and take-down, restocking, and helping customers. The entire shift is at Lions Park in Red Lodge and you'll work in conjunction with Leslie to make our market booth a success.

This shift is ideal for someone who likes a fast-faced work environment & engaging with the public. If you get excited about sharing tips on eating & cooking a range of vegetables this is a plus. Attention to detail, comfort handling cash & doing basic math, willingness to work in most weather conditions, and ability to lift 30-50lbs are necessary for this shift.
